The overall purpose of my project was to produce a natural timber TV cabinet that incorporates a modern aesthetic and to have a functional piece I will continue to use for years to come. This gave me the opportunity to learn and apply a wide range of skills using appropriate machinery and tools. Some very complex joinery required 100% accuracy to maintain the structural integrity and quality of the project e.g. housing joints for shelving, carcase and leg underframe construction, traditional frame and floating panel doors, consideration and allowance for timber movement, accurate setting of solid brass knife hinges and hardware, woodturning of custom door handles, complex assembly and glue ups, and high attention to detail in preparation, sanding and finishing.
