TESTED: Union Mfg Co plane adjuster mallet
Review and photos: Raf Nathan
Made in the USA by the same company who make the Accu-Burr this is a charming little tool made for one job and it does it very well.
It is a small hammer with a head made from what Union calls a soft steel which is fitted to a beech handle. The joinery and metal work are superb. The head has lovely chamfers flowing down neatly onto the traditional style polished octagonal wood handle.
It is 195mm long overall and a mere 92 gram so it automatically limits how much force you can exert. It is a gentle hammer for tapping your plane blade laterally or with a wood plane to extend the depth of cut. It is not intended to be used to drive brads or nails but could be used for tapping small joints together.
