Ergonomic Rocking Chair 1 of 6

The concept was to create a ergonomic rocking chair. This was achieved by using anthropometric data to determine the angles and heights used. The fabric is a thick, strong satin, which was cut into strips and woven, creating a strong, comfortable surface that would prevent slouching whilst providing comfort. I marbled the satin using vibrant dyes, creating a distinctive and eye-catching design that stands out against the New Guinea rosewood. To apply the fabric to the chair I routed out channels in the wood frame and sewed the fabric in a loop at the ends so that a brass rod could be slid into the loop and sit in the groove but not pass back through the gap. This method creates an aesthetically pleasing yet functional aspect to the chair and contributes to the overall uniqueness of the design.
