I have built and manufactured a wooden surfboard made out of balsa that works. I shaped the board based on my personal knowledge of surf boards and information I could find on the web. This process required me to create templates for the rocker (bottom curve) and outside shape. Four lengths of balsa were traced and cut to make the rockers cut out on the bandsaw, glued together and clamped with twenty sash clamps. Then the outside shape was cut. From this point hours of sanding and shaping occurred, thinning, rounding and creating the features of the board. I used an oil supplied by the company that supplied me with the balsa lengths. I have ridden and tested my board and it works, possessing great character.
