How making the ‘impossible dovetail’ mallet marked a new life direction
Sam Giudici is a Tasmanian woodworker whose journey as a woodworker parallels a new direction in his life. In the video below, he explains how Abraham Lincoln’s video on making the impossible (‘mystery’) dovetail mallet was the prompt for making a significant lifestyle change.
While demonstrating the process of making the mallet, Sam describes his early life struggles and how he was able to move towards a more fulfilling lifestyle.
This is a video that illustrates not only an interesting joinery challenge, but also the value of creative pursuits for mental health benefits. In it, Sam cites an anonymous quote ‘about happiness and fulfilment’ that says one should seek out three hobbies – one that makes you money, one that keeps you fit and one that lets you be creative. In this case, woodworking has provided all three.
