Mark Rogers, X-KAB-8R (Art & Accessories)

My name is Hannah Thompson and I am entering this competition on behalf of my Dad (Mark Rogers) who makes the most insane wooden toys for my children (his Grandchildren). Some of his creations include an Articulated Dump Truck, Bobcat Bed, Mining Dump Truck, hot rod cars, off road buggy that tows a caravan, Star Wars X Wing, R2D2 plus he also makes furniture. We have people all over the world contacting us wanting him to re-make the pieces for their own children. It was hard to decide which piece to enter but we decided his latest creation has been the most impressive and well received - the X-KAB-8R. All of his creations are made from recycled packing case pine. Details of the X-KAB-8R • All timber construction with 90% recycled pine • tracks are fixed and runs on four wheels tucked up under the tracks, with fixed wooden drive wheels and guides with a bicycle chain connecting • 360 degree rotation • full articulation up and down and back and forth of digging arms and bucket, and arms and bucket can be fixed in various positions with coloured pins • bucket teeth are small rubber door stops • loosely modelled on a CAT 6020B mining machine • Weight, is bloody heavy • a track is 500mm long, outside edge of track to track is 430mm, at full stretch 1200mm in length • Four sliding doors to engine room full of equipment to be serviced and played with by tiny hands • Minor hydraulics are garden irrigation tube • Hydraulic rams are random pipe • Suits Duplo people • No plans were used in the construction, simply photos from the net and imagination • Folding ladder to the ground and ladders between decks for access
