For my 2022 HSC Major work, I constructed a traditional wine cabinet. The cabinet will be used to fulfil a neglected corner in my house, which instils practicality and versatility. The cabinet consists of 2 drawers connected through dovetail joints, which have been constructed to store 20 wine bottles at a titled angle. This has allowed the liquid from within the bottles to be in constant contact with the cork, increasing shelf life, whilst appearing more technical and unique. Furthermore, I have included a fold-out feature table with bronze tinted glass for visibility of spirit bottles and gold chains for support. This is met with a mirror glued to the back of the project, nestled in through timber beading. Additionally, the top segment of the design includes timber bending at a 45degree angle, constructed through multiple cuts in the wood, pullies and expanding Araldite glue. This was the most technical and challenging part of the steps of construction, as I repeatedly needed to iron the wood, so that the water particles from the iron, caused the timber to bend to the appropriate angle. Beneath the bend, I attached 6 rows of wood that I routered using the Horizontal crown bitt to create storage for wine glasses to be hung from the base of the glass. Holding up the bend features 2 pillars which I turned by hand using the lathe, this contributed to the traditional aesthetic and included an additional process that was technical to the design. Finally, I applied over 7 coats of Scandinavian oil to the project, protecting it from weathering, whilst creating a shiny look to the traditional design.
