Alex Marlin, Walnut Writing Desk (Student Awards 2019)

I created a writing desk out of American walnut with contrast of rock maple. The design features angular drawer framing parallel to the splayed legs, single lap dovetail joints, veneer gluing for the drawer base, butterflies routed into the desktop breadboard ends, floating mortise and tenon joinery to connect the shaped leg frames and a CNC machined drawer insert. Other joinery includes: extensive use of housing joints, rebate housing joints, edge halving joints and through dovetail joinery in the drawers. Year 12, Barker College. Teacher: Andrew Davidson
