For my HSC 2024 major work, I have made a desk using Walnut with a laminated mountain design for the modesty panel. The small drawer on the left has double-acting dovetail slides with hand-cut half-blind dovetails and a secret locking mechanism which coaster houses a magnet inside. The magnet lifts the metal lock and unlocks the drawer. The other drawer "looks" like it is floating however I have used sliding dovetails again to attach it to the table base frame. The top is solid American black walnut making for a robust item that will stand the test of time.
