The 72" x 72" coffee table consists of 4 pieces 36" x 36" square with a a special bronze metallic finish. The concept was to create a very large coffee table for a large space while being able to easily move the piece, while also having the opportunity to use the 4 pieces individually. The concept/design of the open corners at each outside corner was to reduce the visual weight of the piece while adding a curious space. The sequenced matched walnut has been dyed a deep color to emphasize the grain. The inside corners of each opening are capped in a solid walnut radius blended with the walnut veneer. The top is 2" thick (man made material). The textured finish for the table top is a 5 step process, proprietary. It involves several layers of lacquer and hand texturing to create what looks and feels like a slightly hammered bronze. All the finishes are environmentally friendly using water borne dyes and water borne top coats. The piece was part of a larger project for a client's home in New Zealand.
