The brass pieces serve both a decorative and structural role in this piece. They give the base enough weight to allow the table top's overhang to remain stable even if the table's edge is heavily weighted. They also enable people to be comfortably seated around the circumference of the table with ample leg room. This allowed my clients to use their oversized dining chairs. The curve at the end of the table allows two chairs to be placed at each end of the table creating room for extra seating when hosting those larger dinner parties.
