Benjamin Grant, Turu Maitai (Furniture)

Named after the majestic Matai River in Nelson New Zealand. This chair was designed and developed during an artist in residency programme with Michael Fortune and Kelly Parker at the Centre for Fine Woodworking Nelson. The intention of the design was to produce the same chair with different back styles to create a family of chairs at the one dining table. This chair is the second prototype made with locally grown elm. The grain of this particular back rest compliments the overall form of the chair and sits well with the theme of a majestic river.
