The Triune Chaise draws inspiration from a blend of iconic designs and ergonomic principles. Influences include Le Corbusier’s chaise lounges, Thonet’s steam-bent rocking chairs, and Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona chair. Each of these iconic pieces inspired different elements of the design, from the ergonomic support and flowing organic lines to the use of high-quality materials and sleek, modern aesthetics. The concept behind the Triune Chaise was to merge these inspirations into a single piece that not only functions as a comfortable lounging option but also serves as a statement of refined craftsmanship and design. The chaise is crafted from American Black Walnut veneer, chosen specifically for its deep, rich colour and beautiful straight grain that flows consistently through all the laminations. The walnut was hand-selected to ensure that the grain pattern complements the design, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to take centre stage. Parnham joints were used in the construction to ensure maximum strength and durability while maintaining a streamlined, elegant appearance. These joints were executed with great precision, contributing to both the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the piece. The Triune Chaise is finished with Danish oil, a choice that enhances the natural characteristics of the American black walnut. Danish oil was selected not only for its ability to highlight the wood’s rich colour and grain but also for its durability, ensuring that the chaise remains beautiful and functional over time. The design of the Triune Chaise is characterised by seamless laminations that create a unified, flowing structure. The laminations were carefully crafted to come together in a way that forms a triangular shape at the rear of the piece, which serves as a critical support position. This unique design not only adds structural integrity, allowing the chaise to support the user’s weight comfortably, but also serves as a visually striking element. The ergonomic form of the chaise was meticulously tested and refined through the creation of prototypes, ensuring that the chaise provides optimal comfort while maintaining its sleek and modern aesthetic.
