Kaspian Kan, Tomi side tables (TABLES, CHAIRS, DESKS 2021 )
Tomi Side Tables are a response to the overwhelming grief of living in a culture that demands our complicity in environmental destruction, while at the same time being wired to express creativity, joy, playfulness, whimsy, and connection. A pair of tables made by halving an old unused drum given by a friend, utilising its original hardware as both fixings and aesthetic elements, along with resources from waste streams - plywood from a nearby skip, offcuts from a local table manufacturer. With minimal adhesives, Tomi is designed to be easily disassembled for repair, repurposing, and returning to the earth. Accommodating the natural movement of the earth, and the dwellings placed upon it, the legs and feet are easily adjusted for levelling.
