Inspired by the joy of candy, The Twizler is a bespoke occasional chair that develops on the tradition of parquetry and implements it in a new form and variation. The design explores the use of colour and recombination of different materials to generate new outcomes, showcasing contemporary applications of both lathe and CNC technologies. The starting point was the creation of a dowel that would act as both feature and structure, thereby challenging the conventional use and purchase of dowel as a standardized material. This then eventually evolved into the feature leg that we see in the final design. Walnut, maple and felt wool offcuts were used for tactile contrast and visual texture. The form of The Twizler responds to the playful nature of the pattern, resulting in a design that celebrates both tradition and innovation.
