This sculptural six seater dining table was made with solid America Hard Maple and was inspired by natural, organic forms. Although it was glued up in a mostly square form, once it was in one piece I uncovered the stump within the timber by using a power carving disk on an angle grinder. The curved outline of the top was designed to ensure that each of the six seats could be placed comfortably around the table. The bevel on the underside, slims the top to a more elegant thickness while the surrounding groove adds a subtle level of interest to the top without detracting from the base. This kind of sculptural piece is something I have wanted to explore for some time and it feels great to have finally contextualised this piece.
