I set out to build something unique that would challenge me on a technical level, as well as showcase the incredible variety of wood colors that nature can provide. But this project took on an unexpected deep personal meaning for myself and my family as I was building it. There were no dies or stains used in this piece. The colors of the rainbow comes from 10 different species of natural hardwoods. I used two types of Maple, Poplar, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Teak, Claro Walnut, Padauk and Wenge. The case and interior is solid Mahogany and Mahogany veneer. Each color section in the doors consist of 18 thin layers of solid hardwood cold-bent lamination. They were glued up one section at a time, shaped, and joined together to form the final design. The solid mahogany wine rack holds 15 bottles of wine and there is a shelf for glassware above. I spent 7 months creating two of these identical cabinets, one to sell and the other to keep as a family heirloom. The process of building these cabinets is documented in detail on my YouTube channel "Weber Woodshop."
