Made with Oak, Black Maire & Velvet. The Coromandel Shelf is made with locally grown oak (Hahei, Coromandel Peninsula), which was milled on site and air dried at my workshop for several years. This oak yielded some particularly beautiful quarter sawn boards which give the striking grain pattern. Small details are made with Black Maire (drawer handle, pegs, inners of the drawer). This piece features two coat pegs, a shelf, and a drawer with an additional lift out tray - both of which are lined with silk velvet. I’ve used a combination of handcut dovetail joints, sliding dovetail joint and splined miter joints. The back features two handmade keyhole slots for wall hanging. A home-made bees wax polish has been used to finish.
