This box began as a 600mm x 50mm x 50mm piece with a striking blackheart band down one side and an unusually white contrasting side. The challenge was how to best highlight its beauty. I decided to cut it up into six 5mm strips and book match them to create all the contrasts. Gluing them onto a substrate then gluing them onto darker pieces to form the outer edges. The handles for the two drawers were strategically placed and colour selected so as to camouflage them as much as possible to keep the flow of the dark bookmatched band .
