'The Barrel Base' dining table designed and made by Andrew Dobson from Upcycled Wood Designs. Made using reclaimed and recycled timbers, this bespoke round dining table features a top made from Stringybark and repurposed wine barrel staves for the base. The barrel originally housed red wine and was reclaimed from a local winery in North East Victoria a number of years ago. The Stringybark was sourced from a demolition yard having been recovered from recent works. The barrel staves were cut to length and rabbet joined on two separate custom jigs, so they could be joined onto the base and top for a secure joint that was also reinforced with dowels. Each rabbet had to be modified using hand tools to factor in for the curve of the base and top, so as to ensure a strong glue joint. The Stringybark top features a round-over top and bottom to provide a soft edge profile and is finished in hard wax oil. This 1150 mm diameter piece is a unique take on the current slatted pedestal trend. www.upcycledwooddesigns.com.au
