Robyn Mauger, Textured Lid Box (BOWLS, BOXES 2021)

TEXTURED LID BOX – 310x185x80mm This box was inspired by a book of photographs of the surface of Mars a gift from a friend. The textured lid is crafted from a reclaimed church pew, possibly Kauri, the lid is surrounded by a mitre jointed edge of Queensland Ebony. Two very different timbers to work with, each producing pleasing results. A highly tactile piece. The Light Wood Timber box and base has fitted Ebony legs complimenting the lid edging. After sanding to 1200 grit the box was finished with tung oil. The interior features black flocking.
