Inspired by one of my favourite childhood books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, I have turned an oversized apple with a hungry caterpillar coming out. As a wood turner I have turned many small apples over the years but I enjoy the challenge of doing an oversized apple, to try and create something that is very mundane and show it as a piece of art. All timbers used are off cuts from previous jobs I have done, and the apple timber came from a wharf in Sydney, and still has so much beauty in it. It has sat in my timber collection for years, waiitng for just the right piece to use it for. Creating life in "Terence" was not only a test of my turning skills, but of my creative eye in giving him the sense of movement and personality.
