Darrell Peart, Tercet Leaf Table : A Study in Contrasts (WORLD 2021)

Country
United States

The base lives in the world of predictable geometric forms. The three legs are all identical in shape. When seen from various viewpoints they appear to change form, however. In the end what might be considered a surprise (changing shape of the leg) was nothing more than math at work and again very predictable. There is something reassuring in that predictability though. Personally, I like a little rebellion. But, my rebellion must be thoughtful – I have no desire to burn the house down. I just want to shake it up a bit and interject a modicum of change. (Change being a good thing) The top is not quite chaos – but it’s not very predictable either. In general, its shape is loosely based on that of a leaf. It is unruly and the grain of the different sections are at odds with one another. The base and the top could hardly be further apart in color and texture as well. Somehow within all this contrast – I hope you perceive harmony. Top: Black Limba Base: Padauk Pegs: Gabon Ebony width: 25 3/4" depth: 25 3/4" Height: 21"
