I have long thought that some of the natural properties of wood have been under-exploited in furniture making. Properties such as elasticity, tensional and compressive strength. In this piece I sought to realise a structurally sound but demountable bench seat, using pressure, tension, compression and friction to achieve stability. Easily assembled and disassembled, this seat could be scaled bigger or smaller. The dramatic timber is Black Bean (Castanospermum australe)
