Temiku was designed to embody lightness and a sculptural sensibility. It was also conceived as a piece to explore the meeting of craftsmanship and contemporary design. To achieve these goals the piece was designed with unifying spacial elements and deliberate choice of hand joinery. The top aprons of the piece curve though the middle and ends, Creating space that is mirrored through the piece and allows the top to float above the frame. The through wedged tenons were hand paired fior assured crispness with the final sculptural joinery on the legs hand shaped to finish. Ebony wedges were made for the tenons to create a subtle contrast to the blackwood. The table top was made of bookmatched figured blackwood with slightly curved ends. The bottom tier of the frame continues the concept of lightness through the choice of loose canning weave and spaced paneling. Temeku is designed to be a piece that is warm and one that reveals itself over time; The deliberate choice of cane changes with age while the small detailing unifies the piece and inspires the observer to explore and discover.
