Woodworking is, to us, a heritage that links our present day with the foundation of our culture. Our work, which aims to be contemporary and individual, is influenced by long-lasting art expressions of past periods. The submitted piece is a revisit of a French tambour file cabinet. When open, the tambour is rolled into a spiral in a concealed area at the footing of the piece. The cherry and maple marquetry runs seamlessly through the slats, which was an interesting technical challenge. Ment to be seen from all sides in de middle of a room, it features a highly decorated frame-and-panel back with the same pattern gilded in 23-karat gold leaf. Gentle curves enhance an upward movement at the sides as well. The inner trays are made from hard maple and cedar of Lebanon, which yields an intense, pleasant scent reaching out to the user every time the piece is opened. Materials: locally sourced European cherry, gold leaf, American hard maple, cedar of Lebanon. Conception and build: Germán Peraire Marquetry design: Xènia Garrofé and Germán Peraire Marquetry execution: Beatriz Zuazo
