Boris Polak, Sushi tray (ART, OBJECTS 2021)
This sushi tray has been inspired by the beautiful work of Roberto Gastelumendi. The tray is made by laminating contrasting timbers to produce one-of-a-kind unique patterns. This board was produced by laminating New Guinea Rosewood, Silky Oak, Red Ironbark, Marenti, American Maple and Queensland Walnut. The feet and chopstick holders are made from Ancient Black Red Gum; a timber that grew around 9200 years ago on the banks of the Murray River and discovered naturally preserved underground in 2013. The chopsticks are crafted from Bloodwood and New Guinea Rosewood. This project utilises small timber offcuts which would otherwise be discarded or used as firewood.
