A grand pair of tūi wing feathers carved from salvaged rimu window sills. The tūi is New Zealand's most iconic bird, it famously has beautiful iridescent blue-green feathers and is an energetic and vocal bird. I have chosen to configure the two feathers as a mirrored pair in order to create a dramatic installation for the wall. Each carving measures 120 x 17 x 3cm. Acrylics have been applied to create a laqueur style effect and iridescent paint mimics the colourful sheen of the tūi. I often use reclaimed materials to create carvings representing native NZ flora and fauna, often the timber is native correlating to my chosen subject matter.
