Matthew Tone, Study Desk (Student Awards 2019)

A study desk was designed to be implemented into a bedroom/ study room where a university student can choose to work from home and complete their studies. The aim of the design was to match the overall aesthetics of the study room and to be fully functional, incorporating jarrah and spotted gum. The main construction of the desk was made using Tasmanian oak and the drawer fronts and Stopped Sliding dovetail was made using the jarrah, spotted gum was also used in the construction of the inlay. The study desk was made using traditional woodworking techniques including; housing joints (leg and shelf), dovetail joints (drawers), domino joints (widening joints and box construction), mitre joint (plinth) and a stopped sliding dovetail (floating tabletop).
