A celebration of the beauty and character of Oak, this drinks cabinet is constructed from super-prime French Oak taken from the consecutive boards of a single boule supplied by Tyler Hardwoods. These boards have been bookmatched to highlight the beauty of the timber’s golden honey colour, straight grain and medullary rays. Each of the upper panels mirror the grain in their adjacent boards, and this grain pattern then flows down to the corresponding upper triangular panel of the base. While the base is an unashamedly sculptural form of a twisted, tapered hexagonal prism - an almost Brutalist interpretation of a twisted tree trunk - the upper internal of the cabinet is rendered in Brown Oak Burr veneer, again bookmatched to stand in contrast the clean, straight grain of the Oak exterior. This veneer is reportedly from an enormous burr that rendered more than 2500 square metres of veneer more than 25 years ago, supplied by Capital Crispin Veneer, and is a statement of character - the burr veneer juxtaposed with the architecturally aligned solid oak is intended as an expression of the character of this beautiful timber. Bespoke hexagonal brass hinges, handles and shelf supports provided by IP Engineering in Yeovil, the hexagonal glass shelving supplied by Instrument Glasses in London.
