Patrick Holcombe, Story Shelf (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)

The story shelf was designed to display a selection of precious objects collected by the client over a lifetime of travel and adventure. I wanted the piece to shine on it's own but ultimately it had to provide space and focus for mementos collected from around the world. Right from the start this client knew she wanted a live edge and I had to balance that with creating a piece that didn't lean too heavily into the rustic or rough. I ended up removing the bark from the slab and carefully following the grain to keep the essence of the tree but not the actual bark. All of the Blackwood came from a single tree milled in Victoria with a couple features of Redgum splines and Blackbutt cleats.
