Ian Parker, Split top bench (WORLD 2023)

This is my design for a workbench specifically designed for the 'hand tool' woodworker. The 'y' shaped leg it designed to withstand the planing forces exerted on the bench when planing from left to right. The lower cabinet connects both frames and prevents the bench from racking when planing front to back. I am left handed, hence the vice layout and together with the tail vice, the dogs, and the split top, it has proved to be rock solid, versatile and a delight to use. The bench is made from sycamore and has reconditioned 'vintage' Record vices.
