Eliza Maunsell, Sculptural Wall Shelf (Art & Accessories)

This work uses the techniques of bent lamination and shop sawn veneers to create a sculptural timber piece. A veneered shelf placed across the middle makes the sculpture into a wall shelf that is both functional and interesting to look at from every angle. The piece is made from resawn lengths of mountain ash and plantation mahogany, chosen for their warm golden tones that catch the light. The circular form was carefully constructed in a way that is pleasing to the eye, using negative space and a seemingly random assembly of the various lengths of curved timbers. A full circle creates calmness, while the gaps and spaces create a feel of endless dynamic flow and movement.
