Elisa Saarinen, Savu Lounge Chair (Student)

The inspiration for Savu (smoke in Finnish) lounge chair came from masculine, smoky cigar lounges. I wanted to challenge myself and try something new instead of my usual light Scandinavian style. The blackwood, recycled leather and brass details tie the look together. To strengthen the joint, I made custom made dominos where the three pieces of timber join together. The brass pins hold the back cushion in place. For Cert IV in Furniture Design and Technology we had to create a production piece. The idea for this chair was that the customer can choose from different frame colours, pins and cushions to mix and match their desired combination. I studied at Holmesglen. I finished my course on 30/6/2020. I had two teachers Christopher Beck and Gary Fevreau.
