I spent over seven months creating the Sapele Flower Petal Shelf. While I've made many variations of leaf and flower shelves in the past, this was the first one where I added ornamental details, such as veins along the stem that ended in a leaf at the tip. To create the shelf, I started with chainsaws and automobile disc grinders to rapidly remove the bulk from the massive wood blank. As the Flower Petal Shelf took shape, I began using smaller and more delicate tools, with the final details crafted using jeweler files. The top of the shelf used a laminated wood blank that weighed over 136 kg, which I sculpted down to a weight of just 24 kg. The shelf measures 84cm tall x 132cm wide x 66 cm deep and is finished with Waterlox Tung Oil.
