Inspired by the works of the master craftsman, Sam Maloof, my hand-sculptured rocking chair showcases the capabilities of solid timber and the beauty of natural curves. A variety of machines and hand tools were used to refine the shape of my rocking chair and to “blend” different timber components. This allows my rocking chair to appear as if it is hand-carved from one piece of timber. The timber that I have used for my rocking chair is American Walnut because of its strength and robustness, exquisite grain structure and ease of hand carving and sculpting. I also used Rock Maple in the rockers and plug holes as a contrasting colour to highlight the charm and elegance of the American Walnut. My rocking chair is timeless, comfortable, functional, and elegant. I am incredibly proud of my handcrafted rocking chair.
