This piece was inspired by the endangered starfish that are native to the Salish Sea, the body of water near to which I live. The design intent was to create a pedestal table without the center post-just arms and legs. The joinery was challenging to engineer and execute but resulted in an incredibly robust structure. The top rim needed to be substantial enough for hidden joinery and structural integrity but visually light enough for the overall design. This was accomplished by a quarter ellipse profile above and a discreet cove relief cut below. The wood is European Pearwood with an East Indian Rosewood inlay. The finish is a hand applied and rubbed Tung Oil/Resin mix. Satin Sheen. Dimensions: 42" (106.7 cm) diameter 16" (40.6 cm) high Glass: 3/8" (.95 cm) thick
