Customer requested a complete kitchen renovation using a rustic design like other work they had seen on my website. They loved the concept I created to incorporate rescued and recycled timber fence rails and posts from a dismantled cattle yard in our local area. The weatherboards on the island bench were salvaged from a demolition yard in Brisbane and some timber also came from the customer’s old deck, which I re-purposed for all the panels to give a nice sentimental touch by incorporating their old deck into their new kitchen. The timber benchtops came from trees on my property from chainsaw to Lucas Mill to the finished product. The technique I use to produce the panels is a saburr-tooth wheel to rough up a pattern on the rescued timber, then I stain it with several colours, which go into the grooves, and then sand it back to timber to leave the colour in the grooves. And finish it with clear lacquer. I am proud of the fact that the timber I rescued is now given a new life in a modern rustic kitchen instead of being burnt and wasted. I have rescued a lot of timber over the last decade to create beautiful rustic designs that has a history and story.
