Tom Rutherford, RHR Chair (TABLES, CHAIRS, DESKS 2021 )

Having completed the "Russel Table" with some of the exotic timber left to me, I embarked on designing and making 10 unique chairs. Made with carbon fibre fitting and English Oak for the seats and back and quilted white leather to match the table. The Oak boards were split, joined and milled, then steamed and bent over a mould and allowed to dry in a brace for 3 weeks in a heated room. All fittings, back support, seat support and gas spindle were laminated with carbon cloth, sanded and polished. A false seat and back were laminated and bent, and with a fibreglass mould, the cushions were formed using a 2 part foam solution. The cushions were then covered with white quilted leather. The legs were shaped using a CNC machine and finished by hand.
