Jared Thirlwell, Red Cedar console (CHESTS, CABINETS & BOXES 2023)

The Red Cedar console was made using old growth red cedar from a private collection as well as timber salvaged from the border ranges national park. When creating this piece, it was important to highlight the natural beauty and figure that these pieces of red cedar exhibited. The whole console is made from solid red cedar and the drawers are all dovetailed. To keep with the contemporary design, the drawers are mounted on Blum push to open drawer slides to keep the focus on the beautiful figure on the drawer faces. As with all my furniture, I finished this piece in Osmo Satin and burnished the oil on the second coat to ensure a very smooth and even coat.
