I wanted to make something unique with this timber as it was riddled with fiddleback figuring. After a few different design concepts I decided on this. The whole cabinet is constructed with 28mm thick Blackbutt, with all the drawer bottoms and back panels being solid wood. The drawers are all dovetailed and to add a bit of visual interest I stained the sides and fronts with a black japan stain. The drawers fronts are hand carved from a darker piece of Blackbutt to focus the viewers attention on the hand carved details. The legs are what really makes this piece unique. I template routed each leg and used loose tenon and mortise construction for the joinery.
