Last year I found a piano soundboard in the street. I gave most of the wood to a fellow luthier but I kept some offcuts because I wanted to do something special with them. I came up with the idea of making a simple little box and, as an homage to the instrument it once belonged to, I made an abstract piano keyboard design on the lid. To make it as stable as possible I made a blockboard panel out of this same wood to glue the parquetry on. The wood for the parquetry are ebony from a guitar fingerboard I repaired some years ago, and offcuts of flamed European maple from a few guitars I made. The inner linings are ebonized mahogany, also offcuts from my guitar making days. The box measures 20 cm long, 10 cm wide and 10 cm deep.
