Jack Cerchiara, Pendleton Cabinet (WORLD 2024)

Country:
United States

Inspired by the client’s mother’s original 1955 tambour wine cabinet, the client wanted a more modern design with increased storage capacity, but retaining some design influence from his mother’s piece that sat in his childhood home. I wanted to bring a sense juxtaposition between angles and curves and lots of open spaces to lighten the look of the larger storage cabinet. I also wanted to incorporate a number of interesting details but integrated into a cornerstone of highlighting the beautiful natural grain. The maple cabinet is suspended on a sapele base, which features hand shaped oval legs. The top of the cabinet, features a delicate, double sapele inlay. The front edges of the cabinet are hand shaped with a flowing curve that draws the eye into the depth of grain on the sapele doors. The bookmatched accordion doors feature all brass hardware from Brusso Hardware, and incorporate recessed magnets as door stops so that sight lines into the cabinet are unobstructed. The door pulls are hand carved from curly maple. Small brass door stops support the outer doors so the seams all but disappear showing the sapele grain.
