Alexander Traylen, Paper Tube Chair (Furniture)

This chair was developed through a series of experiments between cardboard and pine. A playful spontaneity was embraced early during the discovery of expressed inaccurate joinery methods, these parts or ensembles would go on to form details, with careful curation between the disparate and smooth to inform a cohesive whole. As a prototype the components were principally made with unconventional methods on a lathe, using classic cabinetmaking techniques where required. While smooth carving and blending techniques by hand were used to carefully maintain a 21st century machine aesthetic. A white water colour was floated between layers of clear to enhance the lightness of the pine and to better compliment the natural brown of the cardboard.
