Bethany Lunney, Outdoor Timber Table (Student Awards 2018)
I started the table with the legs, sanding them back to bring out the natural beauty of the cypress pine timber. Then I started on the table top frame using radiata pine, keeping in mind the structure I would need for my finished design. I cut out merbau plugs to fill in screw holes, and also designed the merbau table top side frames to sit above the radiata pine frame, so that the merbau top sat inside the frame, giving the table a nice smooth and detailed finish, as can be seen in my photos. I loved creating the design for the patterned table top, which I found challenged my skills, but gave me a great sense of satisfaction once completed.
