The classical Oriental curves in Huon Pine are reminiscent of dreams of travel to exotic places. The contrasting edge in black shows the limit of the broader segments. Rich colouring of the fiddleback red gum is again in contrast to the light golden swirls of the Huon Pine. The highly figured red gum was specially put aside for such a treasured piece. Three drawers were worked carefully into the piece between the curves to hold the many treasured memories and trinkets. The Huon Pine curves were steamed and bent on a form, one of the techniques learned at Wood Dust Canberra 2018. The flocking of the drawers in black sets off the hand sanded Tung oil finished box.
