Martin Burgoyne, Night Sky (BOWLS, BOXES 2021)

Night Sky is styled on a Japanese ‘handy’ box. Size 230mm x 230mm x 240mm H. It is veneered with book matched Teak with lime edging and box wood stringing. Once removed the drop-fit front door slides neatly into a recess below the internal drawers. A separate inner framework, made from paulownia, houses seven drawers and two small hidden boxes, all are made from Tasmanian oak. The drawer fronts are decorated with a burl veneer and an African blackwood band across their tops. These bands, and the drawer frames, are enhanced with shell dot ‘stars’, which gave me its ‘Night Sky’ title. The two small boxes are hidden behind the outer drawers of the middle row and are accessed by removing the middle drawer.
