Clayton Minto (Clay) Legault, My Signature Bowl (BOWLS, BOXES 2021)
My decorative wooden bowl is a relatively large, deep, thin-walled bowl turned on my Omega Stubby S-1000 wood lathe. Using the Arbortech Precision Carving System, this thin wall bowl was transformed into an open-window structure with delicate supporting struts around the entire perimeter. The final finishing process involved the use of various wood burrs and sanding sleeves mounted on my hand-held Dremel power driver tool. In order to reinforce this highly delicate structure, I sprayed the entire bowl with White Flex Seal, inside and outside, which also succeeded in encapsulating the numerous cavities and worm holes that had been created by invasive insects that had killed this Box Elder tree, from which the original chunk of wood used to make this bowl had been retrieved.
