I designed and constructed a contemporary multi-purpose drinks cabinet, being useful for different types of bottles and glasses. I followed a contemporary style to ensure the piece would sit into any desired home decor with minimalistic and modern features. After being inspired by multiple Japanese-style furniture pieces, I was able to extract different minimalistic aspects which I could then use within my own design. The Japanese style has influenced my creation of the two soft closing wine racks that pull out as drawers. This is the main feature of my cabinet that is coupled with a mirror to create a floating effect, as well as hanging wine glass racks running on a slight angle. The space within the cabinet not only provides room for exactly 12 bottles of wine (two cases), however offers room for 12 hanging wine glasses, a shelf for different liquor bottles and cocktail makers, as well as a large working bench to store different accessories e.g. decanters, glasses, flowers etc. My project is coupled with various fixtures such as soft closing drawer runners, two mirrors, wine glass racks, push-to-open door mechanism and stainless steel door hinges. The cabinet has been made of a light Tasmanian Oak, whilst being constructed using various traditional timber joinery methods.
