Black Walnut and Sycamore bedside tables with Rimu drawer floor and Rewarewa pulls. Finished with Osmo and completed August 2023. Dimensions: W 500mm L 300mm H 700mm Design concept: To create an elegant set of bedside tables that is functional and balanced The contrast in timber is used to highlight the horizontal lines and curves The coopered black walnut drawer face was made from differently sourced Walnut. The off cuts from previous projects gave the face faint purple and orange hues and a pronounced contrast. This gives the face a strong vertical feature that gracefully flows on through the curved legs. The Rewarewa pull with a Walnut insert, is a “camouflaged peacock,” strong but blending. I enjoyed producing these pieces in my startup workshop, consisting of mainly hand tools.
